Our History

Sioux Falls Christian Schools as an academic institution, seeks to educate children grades preschool through grade twelve in the light of God's Word. The school had its beginnings in 1958 as an elementary school known as Calvin Christian. Classes were held for the first 21 students, grades 1-6, in a church basement as the school facility had not yet been completed.

The growth of our schools attest to the strength of our mission. Provided with an academic curriculum based upon Biblical principles and with strong spiritual role models, students leave our school with a foundation that has prepared them to be impact players for Jesus Christ and His kingdom in the community and the world.

Our Focus

Our Christian schools are uniquely structured to provide a transforming education for Christian families in the Sioux Falls region. Our student body represents 350 families. These families recognize three dominant themes that characterize the Sioux Falls Christian Schools:

     A Passion for Christ-centered, Excellent Education
First and foremost, our schools strive to place Jesus Christ at the center of philosophy, purpose, and programs. Our academic and co-curricular programs recognize the one true God as revealed in the Scriptures. As the foundation for all knowledge, the Bible provides the basis from which to interpret all areas of life. This understanding permeates all relationships to Him, to ourselves, to others and to the universe, which He created. Because an understanding of the creation is necessary for responsible servant hood in the Kingdom, academic excellence is a result. Our students consistently score well on the ACT College entrance exam as shown in the graph that is coming soon. 2003 ACT Score Comparison shown below

          Our students also perform well on the Standford Achievement Tests:

                ■ 4th grade performance - 74 percentile
                ■ 8th grade performance - 78 percentile
                ■ 11th grade performance - 74 percentile

      A Family Focus
Sioux falls Christian Schools hold to the conviction that educating children is the responsibility of Christian parents. Therefore, the school's authority emanates from the Christian home. Our governing board consists of parents who profess and promote our Christian values and beliefs. Parent committees support our mission through groups such as Moms-In-Touch (a weekly prayer group) and the Sioux Falls Christian Parents Club (a group that organizes multiple fund-raisers and celebrations for the school).

   A Commitment to the Unity of All Believers
Our current student body represents 72 churches in the Sioux Falls region. As a requirement for admission, at least one parent must claim Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior. As a school community, we focus on the essentials of the Christian faith, seeking to include all families that desire to raise their children in the Lord.
